Ashley was grown in Chickamauga, Georgia (close to Chattanooga, Tennessee), Harkleroad evolved as a professional player on June 12, 2000, after she became 15 years old. She made her debut at the ITF tournament in Largo, Florida, on the date of 1999.

In 1989, at the age of four years, Harkleroad began training for tennis. She was previously guided by Chuck Adams, José Luis Clerc, and Jay Berger. Her father, Danny, operates in the printing enterprise and played college football at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Her mother, Tammy, is a school teacher and played college tennis at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee. Harkleroad got the nickname ‘Pebbles’ while staying in Flintstone, Georgia, a little town that holds one traffic light.

Harkleroad got wedded to ATP pro-Alex Bogomolov, Jr. in December 2004, and they got separated in October 2006. She is now got wedded to retired ATP pro-Chuck Adams.
