Chris Gayle to Return to National Team
Opener and attacking batsman Chris Gayle is set to return to the West Indies squad after two years. It is understood that West Indies are going to call Gayle in the team for the three T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Gayle, 41, is being called up for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Gayle is currently in Pakistan. He is playing for Pakistan Super League Quetta Gladiators and is returning with a good performance in the first two games. Gayle hit 68 off 40 balls with five fours and five sixes against Lahore Calendars. Gayle had a stellar performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last November, playing for Kings Punjab.
The T20 World Cup is being held in India in October-November. The West Indies are preparing for the World Cup. The West Indies, captained by Kieran Pollard, have signaled their return to Gayle. Gayle will now return home. Sri Lanka will return to Pakistan after the series on March 7. The West Indies will announce their squad for the match against Sri Lanka this week. Before that, Gayle will have a fitness test.
Gayle last played an ODI against India in the West Indies in August 2019. He played T20 in 2019 against England. Since then, the West Indies have been keeping Gayle out of the team. Gayle had scored 288 runs in the last seven games of the last IPL with three fifties. Gayle played an unbeaten 84 off 22 balls with 9 sixes and 6 fours against the Maratha Arabians from Team Abu Dhabi in the T10 last February. Gayle added a total of 27 runs to Nepal’s fast bowler Sompal Kami in one over, including three sixes and two fours.
