Indian sportswear company Seven has co-sponsored next season’s Everest Premier League (EPL). The EPL has been announced to be held from September 25 to October 9 (September 9-23) this year.
Along with the co-sponsorship of the league, ‘Seven’ will also be the kitting, clothing, and merchandising partner of all the six teams participating in the EPL. The brand will also provide jerseys to all teams.
EPL and ‘Seven’ have a three-year agreement. The contract amount is about 8 million Indian rupees (12.8 million rupees).
The agreement was signed by EPL Managing Director Amir Akhtar and Riti Group Chairman and Managing Director Arun Pandey at a program organized in Kathmandu on Monday.
‘Seven’ is a fitness and lifestyle sportswear brand under Riti Group which will expand its market in Nepal as well. Following the agreement, Seven will open three stores in Kathmandu over the next two years and expand to 14 different cities in Nepal.
Former Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s jersey number 7 has been renamed as ‘Seven’, which is Dhoni’s own brand.
The ‘Seven Brand’ was inaugurated by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2016 of which he is the brand ambassador. Dhoni also owns the brand’s shoe business. Dhoni, who is currently captaining Seven, is also a merchandising partner of the IPL team Chennai Super Kings.
There will be the participation of 6 teams in EPL. Along with defending champions Lalitpur Patriots, Kathmandu Kings-11, Pokhara Rhinos, Chitwan Tigers, Bhairahawa Gladiators and Biratnagar Warriors are participating teams in the league. The previous season of the league was held in December 2018. Lalitpur Patriots, captained by Gyanendra Malla, defeated Bhairahawa Gladiators, captained by Sharad Vesavakar, by 14 runs to win the league title.
