Good and Bad News for Team RCB
Corona continues to wreak havoc on players ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League. Before the competition, Nitish Rana of Kolkata Knight Riders, Akshar Patel of Delhi Capitals and now Devdatta Padikkal of Royal Challengers Bangalore have also seen corona positive.
After testing positive, Padikkal is currently in quarantine. Bangalore will play the opening match of the league on April 9 against defending champions Mumbai Indians. According to sources, Corona-infected Padikkal could miss the first two games of the league against Bangalore.
Before the IPL, Padikkal, who was in excellent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scored 737 runs in 7 games at an average of 147.40. Padikkal, who showed excellent rhythm in the league last season in the UAE, scored 474 runs in 15 games in which he struck five fifties.
According to Indian media, 8 to 10 staff members of Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium have tested positive for corona before the competition. Similarly, eight members of the company managing the competition have also tested positive for corona. Even the Indian Cricket Board has accepted it.
Mohammad Azharuddin’s dream of playing with his idol Virat Kohli will come true on April 9. Royal Challengers Bangalore regular opener Devdutt Padikkal will miss the inaugural match of the IPL against Mumbai after being infected with corona. In this situation, Mohammad Azharuddin will be able to start the innings of RCB on April 9.
“Virat Sir is my idol. I am a big fan of him and he is also my source of inspiration. Playing with him, sharing the same dressing room would be like a dream come true for me. ” Mohammad Azharuddin said.
“But I have many dreams. My biggest dream is to play for India like everyone else. My immediate dream is to play fearless cricket in the IPL. ”
“I’m not afraid to get out. This IPL season will be an opportunity for me to watch and learn. I have had a good cricket season which I would like to continue. ”
Azharuddin was recruited by Bangalore in the IPL action 2021 at a base price of Rs 2 million.
Azharuddin, who represents Kerala in Indian domestic cricket, scored a century off just 37 balls in the Syed Mustaq Ali T20 Trophy in January this year, the third-highest combined century in T20 cricket history in Indian cricket. Chasing a target of 197 against Mumbai, he struck nine fours and a six off just 54 balls to give Kerala a historic victory with an unbeaten 137 runs.
He also became the first batsman in the history of Indian domestic cricket to score a century in a domestic T20 for Kerala.
The 27-year-old right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has scored 451 runs in 24 T20s at a strike rate of 142.27 and an average of 22.50. He made his T20I debut for Kerala in 2016 and his Ranji Trophy debut in 2015.
Devdatta Padikkal, a left-handed batsman who made his debut for Bangalore in the IPL 2020, scored 473 runs in 15 games with five half-centuries. After Corona is infected, he will stay in Self-Eye or Solitude for 10 days as Bangalore will miss the first two games.
Padikkal will be replaced by Azharuddin or New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Finn Allen. Ellen made headlines last year by scoring a half-century off 18 balls in the T20 International against Bangladesh.
As Azharuddin also plays wicketkeeping, captain Kohli will be able to use him as a wicketkeeper.
“I have been playing fearless cricket from the beginning and from the beginning I believe in hitting the ball from the middle. I very much hope that I will get a chance in some games in the IPL. If you ask me in which position I would like to open with Devdatta Padikkal. But I am ready to play wherever the team management plays me. ” Azharuddin had told.
