IPL 2022 Pune and Ahmedabad Teams
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to announce two more new teams for the 2022 IPL in July. It is preparing to issue a tender in July or August. The BCCI had earlier said it would decide on a new team in May between the 14th season.
It was said that it would take a whole month to finalize all the works from tender to auction. This will not be the first time that 10 teams are playing in the IPL. If two more teams participate in the IPL, young players like Sandeep Lamichhane are expected to benefit greatly.
In 2011, 10 teams played in the IPL. At that time, Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers were two new teams. Kochi was banned from the IPL. Due to which nine teams played in IPL in 2012 and 2013. After that, eight teams competed in the IPL.
Eight teams are currently playing in the IPL. These Pune are considered the most demanding for the new franchise team. Pune has been an IPL franchise even before this. Pune Warriors India and Rising Pune Supergiants have already represented the city of Pune.
Pune Warriors played in the IPL from 2011 to 2013 and Rising Pune in 2016 and 2017. If Pune is selected as the franchise, Maharashtra Cricket Stadium will be its home ground. Ahmedabad is also likely to be included in the IPL. The city has the largest cricket stadium in the world.
The Narendra Modi Stadium has a capacity of 132,000 spectators. Recently, some international and IPL matches were played in this stadium. Gujarat Lions played IPL in 2016 and 2017 as the local team. Lucknow is also a strong contender. If Indore is given a place as a franchise, Holkar Stadium could be the home ground.
