Nepal Premier League
Nepal Cricket Association (NCA) is preparing to hold the Nepal Premier League (NPL). The association has even started discussions in preparation for the NPL. According to CAN Secretary Ashok Nath Pyakurel, the board meeting held today has discussed the draft of the NPL.
CAN’s general assembly is being held on the 3rd of November. CAN has not announced an immediate date for the start of the NPL. CAN president Chatur Bahadur Chand announced organizing NPL as soon as he was elected as a president
At present, there are three T20 franchise leagues in Kathmandu, Everest Premier League, Pokhara Premier League in Pokhara, and Dhangadhi Premier League in Dhangadhi. While the cricket association was suspended, the International Cricket Council (ICC) also allowed the league to charge 20,000 dollars.
Now the question has arisen as to what else happens when the cricket association itself franchises the league. But with no decision yet to be made on the NPL, Cricket Association officials say it is not clear what the other franchise leagues will do.
There was also a season of the Nepal Premier League before the cricket association was suspended. Amir Akhtar, who is currently playing in the Everest Premier League, had won the NPL in 2015 with the permission of the Cricket Association. However controversy erupted in CAN after a private company was allowed to do the NPL, and the ICCsuspended the cricket association after issues including financial transparency were added.
