Tayla Harris
Tayla Harris was born on the date of 16 April 1997. She is an Australian rules footballer who is part of the Melbourne Football Club in the AFL Women’s (AFLW) and even a professional boxer. She formerly played football for Carlton and Brisbane.
She was born and raised in Brisbane’s northern suburbs and started playing competitive football for Aspley at the age of five years. She performed in a mixed competition with young girls and boys until the year 2010.
At the age of 15 years, she started engaging in senior football for Zillmere in the AFL Queensland Women’s League (QAWFL), where she succeeded in the league’s best and fairest award in her first season. In the year 2017, following a transition to Melbourne, she started playing in the VFL Women’s match with the St Kilda Sharks.
She portrayed Queensland in the youth girls match and is a five-time All-Australian.
At the age of 17 years, she was drawn to the Melbourne representative side as a piece of the AFL women’s exhibition series. She persisted to play for the club through 2016. She even played as a piece of the Brisbane Lions’ representative squad in the year 2016.
She got a chance to attend primary school at Prince of Peace Lutheran College and she attended her high school at Albany Creek State High School.
Tayla Harris Career
She was one of two marquee player signings reported by Brisbane in expectation of the league’s inaugural 2017 season. She earned her league debut in the club’s starting match, in round 1, 2017, against Melbourne at Casey Fields.
In round 2, she was selected for the league Rising Star award for a two-goal, twelve disposal, and seven-mark performance against Fremantle, and even was named “Player of the Week” by the AFL Players Association.
After two rounds she was categorized as equal fourth in the league for total goals achieved (two) and first in the league for challenged marks (eight).
At the end of the season, she was listed in the 2017 All-Australian team.
Before the 2017 AFLW trade period, she said her wish to be traded to a Victorian club. The trade period began on 15 May.
Early discussions between Brisbane and Carlton faltered; although Carlton suggested Bianca Jakobsson in trade, Brisbane liked an additional player. Melbourne even made a bid for Harris. On the date of 25 May 2017, She was traded to Carlton in a complex trade concerning four teams, five players, and a draft pick.
She got a chance in six matches with her new club in the year 2018 and kicked five goals, tying with Darcy Vescio to convey the club’s leading goalkicker award with them.
She even proclaimed All-Australian selection that year, named on the interchange bench. Her 2019 and 2020 seasons were both stable, as she made 8 goals in each. She was called to the All-Australian team in the year 2020 on the interchange bench.
In the year 2021, she saw down on form, playing 9 games but only booting 4 goals and averaging under 10 disposals. She was concerned about the controversy in the date of March 2021 after she was informed that she missed part of her training to make an Instagram post advertising her new documentary.
Around May 2021, it was informed that she was looking for the club to double her salary to a sum of $150,000, which Carlton was unwilling to do.
She warned that she may change sporting codes back to boxing, where she was victorious in the past. It was said that her relationship with the club had started to decline. Harris eventually demanded a trade to Melbourne and was traded on the date of 8 June.
